Be #BeachSmart

Summer is in full swing, visitors are here, and people are swimming - when they shouldn’t be. Remember to pay close attention to the beach warning flag system (double red flags mean access to the water is prohibited), stay near a lifeguard wherever possible, and check the weather forecast for rip current risks before you head to the beach.

a graphic from the national weather service about rip current basics

With 195 fatalities recorded in northwest Florida by the National Weather Service stations in Tallahassee and Mobile between 2002 and 2021, rip currents are the number one weather-related killer at the northern Gulf Coast beaches. That's more than flooding, tornado, lightning, and tropical fatalities combined during the same period and geographic area!

Niceville, FL - Dog-Harmony hosts "Learn to Talk Dog" presented by Debbie Revell (RN, Dip CABT, CDBD, ACCBD), on July 18 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Comfort Suites Inn in Niceville. This seminar is ideal for veterinary employees, animal shelter employees and volunteers, and anyone actively working with dogs.

Summary: Humans talk, dogs observe. Our dogs are giving us cues and signals with their body language all the time. However, most of the time we don’t recognize these signals. You will learn to recognize fearful vs. aggressive canine body language and learn human body language basics, too. We will discuss two myths that sabotage many human-canine relationships. Learn how to ‘listen with your eyes’ and improve your communication with dogs. Videos and case studies will be presented.

Tickets: Please pre-register as space is limited to 45 attendees.

  • Rescue/shelter employees and volunteers: free of charge (registration still required)
