Frame Gallery is hosting a special exhibition, “Painting Together: A Celebration of Martha Keeble’s Legacy,” honoring the retirement of Sewanee Art Works instructor Martha Keeble.

The art exhibition will feature work by both current and former students, showcasing the creative legacy of Keeble’s more than four decades of art instruction.

A reception for the artists will take place on Friday, July 11, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at Frame Gallery in downtown Sewanee.

Keeble stated, “After more than 40 years of teaching art, I am deeply thankful for the chance to inspire creativity, promote self-expression, and share in the joy of creating. It has been a privilege to see so many discover the artist within.”

Betty Barton, a featured artist in the exhibit, said, “I have had numerous art teachers over the years, and Martha is, hands down, the best one I have ever had. She has helped me develop my skills with her expertise and humor.”

Teaching generations of students in various settings over the decades, Keeble has worked in private homes, church spaces, local studios, and, most recently, Frame Gallery. Her teaching style is characterized by humor, grace, and a talent for fostering artistic confidence in both beginners and seasoned artists. Keeble has a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in drawing and painting from the University of Georgia and a Master of Arts in Education (MAEd) from Georgia State University.

“This exhibition is both a celebration and a tribute,” said Harriet Runkle, owner of Frame Gallery. “Martha has cultivated not just artistic skill but a true sense of community. Her presence at Frame Gallery transformed our art studio space into something truly special.”
