Kick off your Independence Day weekend with creativity, community, and hands-on fun at Frame Gallery's first Makers Market on Friday, July 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
At the first Makers Market, visitors of all ages can enjoy:
Handmade artwork and fair-traded crafts
25% off ToySmith games and crafts on July 3
Artist demonstrations
Independence Day Chalk the Walk activities
Art projects in the Studio for children and the young at heart
“Go Fish” for sea creatures in a kiddie pool for prizes
More than a traditional craft market, the Makers Market celebrates art-making and community. Visitors can browse handmade artwork, fair-trade crafts, creative art kits, and one-of-a-kind gifts while meeting local makers and watching live art demonstrations.
One of the things that makes Makers Market activities sustainable is the use of leftover materials from the gallery's custom framing shop. Matboard, foam core, cardboard, and other framing remnants are transformed into imaginative works of art, demonstrating that art can flourish with everyday materials. It's a fun approach that encourages experimentation, resourcefulness, and the belief that art is about the joy of creating, not perfection.
"Our Makers Market is about bringing people together to discover handmade work, make art, and celebrate creativity," said Harriet Runkle, owner of Frame Gallery Gifts & Art. "We love showing people that even the scraps from our custom frame shop can become something beautiful. Sometimes all it takes is a little imagination."
Whether you're searching for a unique handmade gift, looking for a fun Independence Day weekend activity, or simply wanting to spend time with friends and neighbors, the Makers Market offers a welcoming place to support the arts.
Frame Gallery hopes to add additional artists and makers throughout the summer to display and sell their handmade work. Artists working in any medium are encouraged to participate.
